How would modern day life be without modern technology? For most people, modern technology plays a big role in everyday life. From life at home, to school, and work, technology is everything! There are many pros and cons to this “electronic age”. Regardless, the influence and the impact on people’s lives are great.
In Sven Birkert’s essay “Into the Millennium”, he writes about the transition of text to electronics. When he was buying books, he had come across multiple people transitioning in to the “electronic age”. In his essay, he compares the present and the past. His essay can make a person wonder about the changes that have taken place and the significant effect of electronics. Although I am of a younger generation, I have seen enough to compare the past to the present and question the future.
When I was younger, computers seemed fairly new, but they were everywhere. Once upon a time, it was what was said and what was wrote, then to printed text, and now to computers. Knowledge is now being stored on hard disks, removable storage devices, and the internet. My everyday life would fail without modern technology. It’s hard to live without a computer for browsing and email and a cell phone. It concerns me about the future, and the movie “Wall E” comes to mind.
How would my life be without electronics? It would be horrible! It saves time and energy, but what happens if it saves so much bodily energy that the body loses energy? If everything is going to do everything for us and know everything for us, what happens if all electronics fail someday? Then we lose everything, and we know nothing. It would be like going back to day one; we’d have to learn how to survive and progress all over again. Although modern technology is good, there needs to be a line that shouldn’t be crossed of human dependence. Knowledge should not be forgotten or replaced.
Modern technology affects everyone directly and indirectly. For the most part it is great, but if the limit is pushed there can be a great downfall. My life would be a disaster without electronics, and I know I’m not the only one. Electronics are needed for modern everyday life including, but not limited to, school, work, communicating, self-learning, and entertainment.
